Symptoms as the result of a cause..

Educating my patients on Chiropractic Health and Wellness is an important part of my rehabilitation process and getting them back on the path to full and optimal health.

Quite often I hear patients say that it was "lifting" that "put my back out" or they "twisted" which caused the pain. If it is lifting and twisting that CAUSES the pain then surely everyone that lifts and twists would be in pain. We say that lifting and twisting "contributes" to the pain. The CAUSE has been defined by the ACTIONS of that patient in the preceding years.

For example. We buy a brand new car. We never check the oil or water levels. We never service it. We never check the tyre pressure. Yet we drive that car from one end of the country to the other, over and over. One day, while driving through Hamilton, you notice the temperature gauge go up,and up. While driving through Te Kuiti you notice a burning smell. In New Plymouth, your car finally "blows up". Do you blame New Plymouth? You say "but it was fine before then,it got me to Invercargill and back to Whangarei 17 times with no problems. Why did it blow up In New Plymouth? I'd had no problems before then, except a slight temperature in Hamilton and a burning smell in Te Kuiti. But until then it's been a great car. Only in New Plymouth did it stop working.

I say, look at the previous miles. No oil. No Water. And an engine that just couldn't function anymore. The car let the owner know that things weren't right by elevating the temperature gauge, but the owner chose to ignore it. The owner then blames New Plymouth for the car finally blowing up.

Does this sound like anyone you know? Ignoring previous stressors, previous injuries, trauma etc, previous continued poor posture, lack of exercise and poor diet. Yet when their body and spine give up on them, they lay the blame on the action they did when the symptoms arrived. i.e "It was when I lifted" or "I must have slept funny" or even " I just bent down and wham".

True Health and True Wellness involves all the spectrums. Good diet, regular physical exercise,a positive and clear mind and regular Chiropractic check ups to eliminate any muscolo-skeletal dysfunction. Simply relying on symptoms,or how you feel,is not a good gauge on health. Do you only brush your teeth when they hurt? I hope not!

Remember, "When your spine is inline, you'll feel fine"

Have you had your spine checked lately?
