Interview with North Harbour 7s Coach Geoff Alley

I was interviewed after our 1/4 final win over Northland at last weekends Auckland 7s tournament. We lost to Waikato in the semi final, but it was an invaluable tournament for us in our preparation for the National tournament in 8 weeks. We had a number of young fellahs who came in and showed that they were up to the challenge. Looking forward to the Regional 7s in Hamilton on December 7th Interview with North Harbour 7s Coach Geoff Alley

Mental Toughness

https://www.facebook.com/video.php?v=791150854285635 Training my rugby 7s boys last week. Our trainer Dean Rice, ran them through some tough sets of 80x60x40 metre sprints then this gruelling exercise. I push these guys hard. There is no substitute for hard work. These men have to be supremely fit,yet a major reason for trainings such as this,is to test their MENTAL TOUGHNESS. I'm also looking out for the leaders..those guys who are still talking and encouraging their team mates and urging them on to finish the drill and to never give up. Guys who are prepared to lead and not be led. "When the going gets tough, the tough get going" and this is never more so than on a sports field, when the lungs are burning and your legs are like jelly. It's easy to give in. The tough ones dig deep and push harder. These are the type of people you want alongside you in all walks of life.

Symptoms as the result of a cause..

Educating my patients on Chiropractic Health and Wellness is an important part of my rehabilitation process and getting them back on the path to full and optimal health. Quite often I hear patients say that it was "lifting" that "put my back out" or they "twisted" which caused the pain. If it is lifting and twisting that CAUSES the pain then surely everyone that lifts and twists would be in pain. We say that lifting and twisting "contributes" to the pain. The CAUSE has been defined by the ACTIONS of that patient in the preceding years. For example. We buy a brand new car. We never check the oil or water levels. We never service it. We never check the tyre pressure. Yet we drive that car from one end of the country to the other, over and over. One day, while driving through Hamilton, you notice the temperature gauge go up,and up. While driving through Te Kuiti you notice a burning smell. In New Plymouth, your car finally "blows up"

One Shot

In January 2009 I was priviliged to Coach a great bunch of young 7s Rugby players to win a National 7s Championship representing North Harbour. During the course of our campaign,we came up with various games and themes all designed to keep us on our toes and focused on the big prize. The main phrase which we adopted fiercely was "One Shot." We reminded ourselves over and over, that the opportunity to become National Champions may only come around once in a lifetime. Many great 7s players had never been part of National Champion teams, and many great players may have got to the great stage but failed at the final hurdle. We knew that we had the opportunity, and that we had to take it. There would never be another chance that we collectively, would ever get again. We had "One Shot" at it. North Harbour 7s 2009 Too many times over the years as both a Player and as a Coach,I've seen players come off the field being totally shattered with the result and/

Getting started

My first post. I guess we all have to start somewhere :) I'm Re-Inventing myself in 2015. I've been leading what seems to be a 'double life'...Chiropractor and Health and Wellness Advisor by day in my "job" and semi-professional Rugby Coach and Lecturer/Presenter at other times,as well as attempting to commit 100% to my core role as a Husband and Father. Over the years , I've learnt to appreciate the art of public speaking, firstly while offering Health Classes in my Clinic to all new patients, and secondly as a Rugby Coach, directing trainings and delivering messages to my players. This has evolved,to a point where I stood in front of my peers at a Chiropractic conference and delivered a well received presentation on the state of the profession. This  then led to further presentations to other corporate entities on the benefits of Chiropractic care and on Health in general and in defining the term "Wellness". In Rugby, I delivered a National
