Balance and the 80/20 rule

When I first read this brilliant piece,I knew I just had to save it and re-read it. It is certainly a mantra that I try and live by. As I've mentioned before, everything we should do in life should be in balance, with the ultimate goal being excellent health, sharp mind and a high quality of life.

Too often I see people get so caught up in setting such high standards in all aspects of their lives, that they fail to see that all they are doing is creating stress on themselves and also their loved ones around them by being so focused and driven on their goal.

I'm all for 'Health and Wellness'...that is what I preach all day and every day in my Clinic. But I'm also all about living a stress free life filled with Laughter,Fun,Happiness and Love.

Stress is a KILLER.
"Stress is recognized as the #1 proxy killer disease today. The American Medical Association has noted that stress is the basic cause of more than 60% of all human illness and disease "

And if some people can counter Stress by enjoying a glass of wine at the end of a long day then go for it. If a Chocolate bar is crying out at you for love then let yourself go. If your White Toast requires lashings of Butter one morning then enjoy it. But BALANCE means that you can then exercise the next day away and 'recover' with a healthy smoothie smile emoticon

In my perfect world,I call it the "80/20" rule. 80% of your week should consist of being Health conscious and treating your body like a finely tuned racing car..Eating a high quality diet rich in Raw foods and eliminating processed foods. Doing vigorous exercise 5 days a week and incorporating a good strength and flexibility routine (Yoga and/or Pilates). But on the other hand,if you are invited along to a BBQ with good friends, don't be the only one who takes along a Brocolli Salad and Smoothie and ignores the Garlic Bread,Sirloin Steak and Cold Beer...The Laughs and Smiles generated on a relaxing night such as this would be worth a hundred sit ups and ten green smoothies easily!

Listen to your body. It really does know what is best for you. If there is a day where you feel like snuggling up and watching Movies all day, then do it! You won't die.Just discipline yourself to pick up your exercise routine where you left off. "80/20."

Live,Laugh and Love. It's a simple rule to live by.
